Your local property tax database will be updated regularly during August and September as local elected officials propose and adopt the property tax rates that will determine how much you pay in property taxes. You may request the same information from the assessor of each taxing unit for your property, by requesting their contact information from your county’s assessor at: Hays County Tax Assessor Collector – Jenifer O’Kane, PCC; 712 S Stagecoach Trail; San Marcos, Texas 78666. EQUALIZATION PHASE This part of the Appraisal Cycle will run through July 25th. A Notice of Appraised Value for most property owners was mailed on April 8th. The protest deadline is May 15 unless you receive your Notice after April 15th. Please review your paperwork for the appropriate deadline. Most all property owners are eligible to file an appeal online. The Hays County Appraisal Review Board will hear and determine protests, then approve the records by July 20th. The Appraisal District will certify the appraisal roll by July 25th. Homestead Exemption filing costs nothing but a little bit of your time. There is no cost or fee associated with filing a residential homestead exemption application with any appraisal district in the State of Texas. If you live in Hays County you can file online by clicking Online Forms at the top of this page or by accessing an application under the Forms tab and submitting it to our office.
